Game Rules for 2 Players
> Place TriCrosse goals opposite each other and about 40-50 feet apart. See Diagram 1.
> Toss a coin to see who throws first. All throwing and receiving is done from the area behind each goal line. Receiving players do not interfere with throws and do not block shots from in front of goals. > Player 1 begins by throwing the ball and trying to score points into opposite goal. > If Player 1’s shot scores into a goal, they earn 1, 2, or 3 points. See Diagram 2. If Player 1’s shot does not score into a net, Player 2 catches the ball and it is their turn to shoot at their opponents goal. Play continues back and forth as players score points. > First player to score at least 7 points wins. However, the trailing opponent gets one last shot to tie or win the game. If the game gets tied on last shot, players go shot for shot in “sudden death/next goal wins” to end the game. |
Games Rules for 4 Players (2v2)
When playing with 4 players, follow the same rules as listed above. Teammates are on the same side, behind the goal line (like in doubles tennis). Play with two balls and teams throw the ball one-at-a-time and try to score points. After one side has thrown all the balls, the other side gets their chance to throw the balls into the nets and score points. Play continues back and forth as teams score points.
Here's a short video to help demonstrate game play.
For Young Kids Starting out (and Adult Beginners)
If you are just starting out with TriCrosse and having fun but not getting as many points as you would like, here are some rules you can add to the game to increase the scoring:
Remember, use your wrist to properly throw the ball. It is not a big, strong throw with the racquet...it is a flick of the wrist to fling the ball over to the goal. Keep practicing and before you know it, you will be throwing the ball better than ever and rippin' some high scoring points!
- Move the nets closer. This will allow for less air time and a better chance to score a point.
- Catch a Point. When playing a game, if you catch the ball in the air after your opponent throws it, you add a point to your score. The ball cannot hit the ground for it to be a good catch.
- Hit the Goal, Get a Point. If you throw the ball and hit any part of the goal (including the nets), you get a point.
